Accidental misconnection of power adapters or reversed power polarity can lead to immediate, irreversible damage to sensitive electronic systems. Integrated Reverse Polarity Protection

Traditional protection schemes often use external diodes or discrete component circuits, which increase PCB area, introduce additional losses, and respond slowly to fault conditions. The ET9930Y integrates reverse polarity protection directly on-chip, supporting reverse voltage tolerance down to −20V.

In the event of an accidental reversed power connection, the device immediately blocks harmful reverse current flow, isolating downstream components from damage. This built-in protection helps reduce field failures, product returns, and warranty costs while improving user experience.

Ultra-Fast Over-Voltage Response

During transient over-voltage events—such as power surges from hot-plugging adapters or unstable power sources—response speed directly determines system survivability. The ET9930Y features a fixed 6.1V over-voltage lockout (OVLO) threshold.

When input voltage exceeds this threshold, the device responds in only 50 ns, turning off the internal power MOSFET to disconnect the input (IN) from the output (OUT). This rapid disconnect prevents over-voltage stress from reaching sensitive loads including microprocessors, battery management systems, and charging circuits.

Comprehensive Current and Thermal Protection

The ET9930Y includes multiple safety features to support stable and reliable power system operation:

Adjustable Over-Current Protection (OCP): The current limit can be programmed from 0.1 A to 2.3 A using an external resistor. When an over-current condition is detected, the device shuts down within 1 ms and automatically recovers after 3.3 seconds.

Thermal Shutdown (OTP): An integrated thermal monitor disables power output if the junction temperature exceeds safe limits, preventing thermal runaway, component degradation, or fire hazards.

Under-Voltage Lockout (UVLO): The UVLO function ensures the device only enables the output when the input voltage is within a valid operating range, supporting stable system startup and operation.

Compact DFN8 Package for Portable Designs

The ET9930Y is offered in a green-compliant 2 mm × 2 mm DFN8 package, ideal for space-constrained portable and handheld applications including smartphones, wearables, IoT devices, and compact consumer electronics.

Despite its small footprint, the device maintains high operating efficiency with a typical on-resistance (RON) of 105 mΩ. It supports a wide operating temperature range from −40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for consumer and industrial environments alike.

Simplified Design and Reduced BOM Cost

As a highly integrated solution, the ET9930Y reduces component count, simplifies circuit design, and shrinks PCB area compared to discrete diode and transistor protection schemes. The typical application circuit requires only a small number of capacitors and one current-setting resistor, streamlining design, assembly, and supply-chain management.
